Foundation and Early Beginnings
Intercity FC was founded in 1999 in the Manhyia community of AshTown, Kumasi, through the vision and determination of Cosmos Stephen Kwabena Adjei. Motivated by a passion for football and youth empowerment, he sought to create a structured platform to identify and nurture young talent within the community.
The club’s earliest foundation began with a small but determined group of six young boys who formed the first squad:
- Kwaku Afriyie
- Kwame Adu
- Silas Asamoah
- Atta Danso
- Eric Acheampong
- Abinga Usman
This pioneering group became popularly known as “The Smart Six.” Their dedication, discipline, and unity set the tone for the culture that would define the club for years to come. Training on local community grounds with limited resources, they demonstrated remarkable commitment and belief in the vision.
